Lecture:
Classes meet in 1110 Rood Hall every day from 2:00 to 2:50.
Course:
Physics 207 is the second course of a sequence of three in general university physics employing calculus and deals with electricity, magnetism, and light.
Text (required):
Physics for Scientists and Engineers (4$^{th}$ edition), by Serway (1996), Holt, Dryden, and Saunders, publishers.
Text (recommended):
Study Guide and Student Solutions Manual (4$^{th}$ edition).
Calculator:
A pocket calculator with trigonometric, exponential, and logarithmic function keys will be needed and should be brought to all exams.
Prerequisites:
Physics 205 (Physics I) and Math 123 (Calculus II).
  1. It is Department policy that a grade of "C" or better in a prerequisite course is required before enrollment is permitted in the next-sequence course. A student who does not meet this requirement must drop this course as soon as possible and no later than the no-refund deadline.
  2. It is University policy that the number of times a course can be taken is limited to three (including withdrawals). A student whose current enrollment is in violation of this policy must drop this course as soon as possible and no later than the deadline for no refund of tuition.

Corequisite:
Math 272 (Vector Calculus) or Math 230 (Elementary Linear Algebra). Students who are not enrolled in one of these classes, or who subsequently drop that class later in the semester, will be dropped from this class.
Homework:
About 6 problems will be assigned each week and will be due on Friday. These (or any other problems) will be worked out, by request, in class on Friday. One of these 6 problems will appear on the next Monday's quiz or exam. You will receive a homework grade of up to 100 points (10%) toward your final grade.
First assignment: Ch. 23, #10,11,16,33.
Exams:
There will be four regular exams during the semester; each counts 100 points, for a total of 400 points (40%), toward your final grade. You will be tested on all material covered since the previous exam. No make up exams will be given. If you miss an exam, you will receive a zero. A major medical alibi or a death in the immediate family are the only exceptions to this policy.

Quizzes:
There will be eight quizzes that each count 30 points, for a total of 240 points (24%), toward your final grade. You will be quizzed on all material covered since the previous quiz or exam. No make up quizzes will be given.
Final Exam:
The comprehensive final exam will take place on Wednesday, April 19$^{th}$, from 2:45 to 4:45, in 1110 Rood Hall. It will count 260 points (26%) toward your final grade.
Point allocation:
Homework at 100 points = 100
4 Exams at 100 points = 400
8 Quizzes at 30 points = 240
Final Exam at 260 points = 260
