Friday Lab Syllabus: As seen above, the Friday Lab participation involves 150
of the total 1000 course points. These points will be earned through quizzes,
homework and attendance as shown below. For any assessment, you must show
your work in order to receive full credit. If you only state the end
result you will not earn full credit on the problem.

Homework: Homework will be assigned weekly and collected at the
beginning of your Friday lab. Late homework will not be accepted. If you are
unable to attend class drop off your assignment prior to your lab in my mail
box which is located in the main math office (3rd floor of Everett
Tower). If you are absent for any reason you are still responsible for turning
in the assignment on time. All work must be shown to receive credit. Place
problems in sequential order and staple in top left corner. When suggested
problems are given, I expect you to have at least attempted them; suggested
homework will only consist of a few problems and will help in review at the
beginning of class when needed.
Quizzes: There will be 7 unannounced quizzes each worth 10
points. Quizzes are given at the end of the class period so you must be present
and stay until the end of the discussion to receive points. Make-up quizzes
will only be given in emergency circumstances and will consist of different
questions from those on the in-class portion.
Attendance: Attendance is vital for the success of any course. You
will earn 2 points for each class attended.
Group work: Being present is extremely important in your
understanding of the material. Group work may be given, along with handouts,
when time allows.
Incompletes: According to University policy, incompletes are given only in those
rare instances when extenuating circumstances have prevented a student from
completing a small segment of the course. An incomplete is never given as a
substitute for a failing grade. The last day a student can process an
officially withdrawal from a class to avoid a failing grade is Monday, March
17th.
Student Conduct:
Please familiarize yourself with
the student code of conduct and the definition of plagiarism. The use of mobile
phone or two-way radios is strictly prohibited during class, unless itŐs a
life-and-death emergency. Silence your phones, beepers, iPods, etc. at the
entrance of the classroom and store them. For a complete copy of the code of conduct go to http://www.osc.wmich.edu.
WMU Policies and Procedures: You are responsible for making yourself aware of and
understanding the policies and procedures in the Undergraduate and Graduate
Catalogs that pertain to Academic Honesty. These policies include cheating,
fabrication, falsification and forgery, multiple submission, plagiarism,
complicity and computer misuse. [The policies can be found at http://www.wmich.edu/catalog under
Academic Policies, Student Rights and Responsibilities.] If there is reason to
believe you have been involved in academic dishonesty, you will be referred to
the Office of Student Conduct. You will be given the opportunity to review the
charge(s). If you believe you are not responsible, you will have the
opportunity for a hearing. You should consult with me if you are uncertain
about an issue of academic honesty prior to the submission of an assignment or
test.
