Dell has a direct line to Canada. The personal computer leader's Canadian subsidiary provides desktop and notebook PCs, workstations, network servers, mass data storage systems, and Ethernet switches. The company also sells personal and workgroup printers, handheld computers, LCD and plasma televisions, projectors, and third-party software and peripherals. It serves the consumer market, as well as government agencies, schools, and businesses of all sizes. Dell Canada's services unit provides consulting, systems integration, support, and training.

Dell unveiled plans for a new Ottawa-based customer care center in 2005. Operational the following year, the unit provides technical support and sales for Dell's North American customers.

General Motors

Description

General Motors of Canada is that country's #1 assembler of cars, trucks, engines, and components. However, the company exports the bulk of its vehicles to the US. GM of Canada produces such models as the Chevrolet Impala, Buick Allure, and Pontiac Grand Prix. It also manufactures transmissions and other powertrain parts. The company began in 1908 as a partnership between the family-owned McLaughlin Carriage Company and Buick Motor Company; GM bought McLaughlin in 1918 and made it the center of its Canadian operations.
