Section 1: BioMy name is Jonathan Gay and I was born in Grosse Pointe Woods, Mi. Grosse Pointe North was where I attended high school during which I played hockey and soccer. My brother is a Sophomore at Western and my sister is a senior in high school. Currently I'm majoring in Telecommunications and Information Management at Western Michigan University. I a member of the fraternity Sigma Alpha Epsilon and currently the Scholarship chair for my chapter. I also work at National City bank collecting money on credit card bills that are late.
Section 2: Home Town HistoryThe Grosse Pointes were first settled by the French after they forcefully took it over from the French. The area was very useful for farming irrigation and transportation as it was located along Lake St. Clair. During the 1850's Grosse Pointe started to become a weekend retreat for wealthy Detroiters. The automobile and railway made it easy for people to travel from Detroit to Grosse Pointe for hunting, fishing, golfing for a vacation. During the alcohol prohibition era Grosse Pointe became a main place for rum runners to smuggle alcohol into the U.S. from Canada. Many lakefront homes still have underground cellars where smuggled alcohol was stored and the bottom of Lake St. Clair has the remains of many cars that fell through the ice over lake in the winter trying to smuggle alcohol. Section 3: HobbyI love going snowboarding, wakeboarding, watching college football and the
Detroit Red Wings but I'd have to say the activity I enjoy doing most is playing
Xbox 360. Video games are addicting and anytime I have down time where I'm just
sitting around, I'm sitting
NHL 2010, Madden 2010 and Call of Duty: Modern War craft are my favorite games. Nothing I hate more than losing and when I do lose, which doesn't happen very often, I'll try to point out any and every flaw I think the game has. My roommates and I also team up and play against others online which is fun when were winning but a lot of figures being pointed when were losing. We are all very competitive gamers. Section 3: ProudHome:The one thing I'm most proud of at home was graduating from Grosse Pointe North high school. I graduated in May of 2006 with a 3.3 grade point average and was a member of the National Honors Society. I took some honors classes in high school like honors physics and honors pre-calc, which prepared me very well for pre-calc at Western. I was really proud of my grade point average because Grosse Pointe Schools are known for being good, tough schools. School:What I'm most proud of at school would be my job. I work at National City bank collecting credit card debt. Working and going to school takes up a lot of time and has taught me how to manage my time. It's also really nice having spending money and not have to eat ramen noodles every night. I'm hoping it's also going to be a good resume builder and give me an edge in this competitive job market. Section 5: Recommended SitesI use Google about 20 times a day for anything from getting directions to a store to looking up information I need for a class. When I'm bored I'll go to Google news and read any stories that look interesting. I now am using a Google dashboard that I downloaded from Google that gives me a calendar and notepad that reminds me of test and projects that are coming up. Most college students would be lying if they said Facebook is not one of their favorite web sites. You walk around the computer lab and half the students are checking their home pages. I use it to keep in touch with friends, message people in my classes, and now even chat with people online. I think I'll be going on facebook occasionally still when I'm 45 years old. ESPNEspn.com is always keeping me updated with all the sports scores and also lets me do fantasy hockey and football. If I'm by a computer but not a TV it give me live game casts of every sporting event I'd want to watch. Fantasy football and hockey leagues are also something fun to do. It's always fun to talk trash when your fantasy team beats one of your friends. YouTubeYouTube has to be one of the best websites around. It allows everyday people to become internet video stars. I've seen some of the funniest, craziest and weirdest videos on this website. One of my professors even put a video up on YouTube that gave tips on how to do a project we had to do. PandoraPandora is a website that allows you to enter a band, song or genre of music you like than streams music that's similar to what you entered, commercial free. I like it cause it exposes me to bands I've never heard and most of them I really enjoy. It's also really convenient for when I have people over my house. I don't have to spend time making a music playlist, I can just enter what kind of music I want to be played and Pandora does the rest. |
