Most students today have thier own computer whether it be a labtop, desktop,
PC, or Mac. These students load thier computer's memory full of various
programs, downloaded music, games, saved items, etc. Now after years of use on
my PC I started to notice it was running considerably slower. I debated looking
into buying a new one, but PC's are not cheap and I've grown attached to the one
I have now. It has everything I need and I dont worry about it getting throw
around in my backpack when I take it to class. After doing some research I
learned how to inscrease the speed of my PC with simple task which I'm going to
show you. There's no need to go to websites like
finallyfast.com when you can do it on
your own.
1. Over Heated Harware
If you touch or feel your computer and it feels like it's been
getting hotter than usual, this may be a result of debre stuck in your
cooling fan. Usually it's dust that has built up in the fan or your
computer is postioned in a place where the fans are blocked which
prevents it from cooling the hardware inside your PC. To clean out the
dust in your fan simply turn off your computer, unplug it, than spray it
with a can of compressed air. If that dosnt work you can look up how to
remove your fan, usually just a simple unscrew, and clear any debree
from it.
2. Remove Unwanted Programs
From the first day you got your computer till today there have
probably been numerous amounts of programs you've added to your PC.
Whether it be a downloaded programs, or installed with a disk, or some
that might have came with your computer, that are just eating up your
memory. Everyone once in awhile you should go through your computer and
remove any programs that are no longer needed or wanted. To do this
simply go to your Start Menu, than Control Panel, switch to Classic
View, and than double click on Add or Remove Programs. Scroll through
the list and select any program you wish to remove and click the Remove
button next to it. If your unsure of a Program you see, make sure you
find out what it is before removing it as it may be linked to another
program.
Even if you don't have a program showing on your screen, it may still
be running when your not using it. This can cause your Processor, which
is the "brains" of the computer that carriers out instructions for
programs" to run poorly since it's trying to run many programs. To see
all the programs which you are currently running hit the CTR, ALT and
Delete buttons at the same time. If you see a program running that is
not suppose to be, select it and hit End Task. You can also right click
program icons from the task bar to disable unwanted programs.
3. Preventing Start-Up Programs
When you turn your computer on everytime there're programs that are
started as well. Most of these programs are ones you'll use but there
are some programs that start that are un-neeeded causing your processor
to do more work than it has to. To choose which programs start when your
computer starts go to Start, than Run. Then enter "msconfig" and click
run. Click on the Start Up tab and deselect the programs you don't want
to start when your computer starts.
4. Clear Out Junk Files
When you visit a web site, your
computer needs to download the page along with any pictures displayed on
it. To prevent your computer having to download the same files again
each time you visit the same web site, your web browser will store files
and than it will retrieve them if the site hasn't changed since your
last visit. These files will build up over time and cause your computer
to slow down. To erase these files and other files, such as the ones
located in your Recycling Bin run a Disk Cleanup. To do this go to the
Start Menu, than Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Clean Up.
Select C: Drive and than choose the places where you want to clear the
files from.
