The idea of having a resource that I could use to catch my own mistakes came to mind. The “Grammar Survival Guide” is intended to be a resource for student to refer to when doing any kind of writing assignment in and out of the classroom. I believe that being a capable writer is an essential tool to have whether a student choose to further their academic career or not. This “Grammar Survival Guide” fits into the best practices of teaching grammar because it incorporates the idea of mini-lessons. It is based on a semester long project that students create by adding classroom worksheets to a binder on a weekly basis. The grammar activities will only be done once a week for about 15-20 minutes each week with minimal homework. This binder, when finished, is worth 100 points and each weekly homework worksheet is worth a maximum of 10 points. If completed correctly, the binder should be an effective resource for students to use in other classes as well as outside the classroom. In the following pages detailed lesson plans, worksheets, and an introduction can help begin the process of the “Grammar Survival Guide” in a teacher’s classroom.
