Jill M. Hermann-Wilmarth is an Assistant Professor in the department of Special Education and Literacy Studies with research and teaching interests focused on the integration of social justice issues into literacy education classrooms. She has centered much of her work in her own literacy teacher education classes, looking at the intersections of personal ideologies with issues such as race, sexual orientation, gender and class, and how children’s literature and different writing methods can help students and teachers think about the impact they have on one another. She is also interested in the lives of traditionally marginalized preservice teachers, and how their experiences as teacher education students translate who they are and will become as teachers.
