The course consists of a close reading of narratives of the birth—or emergence—and death of prominent pagans and Christians, from Roman antiquity to the high middle ages. The course will include orientation to the premier dictionaries and grammars for the scholarly study of Latin. Expectations:
The class will meet weekly, Tuesdays, 5:30 to 8 p.m. Students will be expected to attend all meetings. More than two absences will result in a fail for the course, unless an ‘I’ is warranted (see university catalog). Students will also be expected to prepare brief written assignments weekly, to be submitted by email Thursday. Grading:
40% Papers
