LANG 350--Classical Mythology

The following items are links to other servers with materials of interest to students of mythology.

Classics and Mediterranean Archaeology
This is the Grand Central Station of activity on the Internet relating to the ancient world. Some of the materials are more suitable to students, some for scholars, but a few minutes spent browsing the lists of services will give an idea of many fields comprised by ancient studies. All of what follows can be found in the lists of the C&MA site.

Mythology in Western Art
A good collection of images of gods and goddesses maintained by the University of Haifa, Israel. The reproductions are organized by individual deity, and then by theme and accompanying figures. Though the emphasis falls on ancient works there are many images from the later eras of painting, including the 20th century.

The Perseus Project
An extensive project to produce an interactive, multimedia resource incorporating texts of major Greek authors, mapping of archeological sites, a Greek to English dictionary, and excellent satellite maps of Greece. All has been compiled on CD-ROM and laserdisc. The Website for the project lets you sample some of the offerings.

The Voice of the Shuttle
The Shuttle weaves together the threads of photography, architecture, and archeology. The VoS Classics Pages is a simple gateway to many other ancient studies resources.

The Tech Classics Archive
From MIT, here is a site with links to English translations of Greek and Latin classics, and later classics also. The Iliad and Herodotus's Histories, as well as Vergil's Aeneid, but you'll also find the complete works of Shakespeare. Not books to read from the screen, but with enough storage, you could download the texts to be printed later.
