LECTURE: Using a School Computer Lab

QUIZ #3 - Lecture 3: Using a School Computer Lab; and Chapter 3: Applying Technologies for Effective Instruction and Personal Computers in the Learning Environment, starting on page 71.

Assignment II -- Kid Pix Slide Show

Description of Option 1: You will create a Kid Pix “Who Am I?” movie. You should be able to use this movie for a Parents' Night movie, introducing yourself to your school family. The Kid Pix movie must include at least five slides, which include:

1- a beginning title slide,
2- a drawing done by you, using the tools in Kid Pix
3- informational page(s) of your experiences (vacations, etc.)
4- pictures of yourself
5- educational background
6- your expectations of students and parents

Description of Option 2 (10 extra credit points): You will create a Kid Pix movie on some aspect of WMU history. Not only will you receive 10 extra credit points for choosing this option (option 2), your movie will be added to a university-wide WMU history website. This historical movie must include at least five slides, which include:

1- a beginning title slide
2- a drawing done by you, using the tools in Kid Pix
3- 2 or 3 informational page(s) of the aspect of WMU history you chose
4- pictures and/or graphics related to your information
5- short bio of yourself

There are many different tools available in the Kid Pix software program. EDT 347 students are encouraged to include the use of several of these tools in your movie, including sound and animation.

Submitting Assignment: This assignment will be submitted to the digital drop box as a movie. The due date is midnight February 13th, 2004. You need to save your Kid Pix Slide Show as a Quicktime Movie. The QuickTime movie will be submitted to your instructor and you will use it as part of your Teaching Portfolio. The following are the steps are for saving it as a QuickTime Movie:

1. Open up your slide show that you saved on your zip drive, or USB key drive.
2. Go to File at the top and click on “Export”.
3. At the top, you will go to your floppy, zip drive, or USB key drive to save it. AND at the bottom, you will go to Save as: Project As QuickTime Movie. Be sure to name it with movie in it. Example: “Sharonsmovie”.
4. Then save.
5. Leave Kid Pix program.
6. Open up QuickTime Movie by:
a. Clicking on your saved movie on your zip drive or USB key drive OR
b. Opening up your QuickTime Movie Player, open movie
7. Play.
