Family My Puppy & Me Favorites

My immediate family includes my son, Andy, and daughter, Kerstin.

Andy is a graduate student and activist at New York University. He spent this past summer at my house writing his dissertation. He still has quite a bit more writing to do, but he is now back in NYC, which he (for the most part) likes better than Kalamazoo.
Kerstin is in the process of completing a graduate program in media studies at University of Western Ontario. She has moved into my spare bedroom for the fall semester so that she can focus on writing her masters thesis. In her spare time she loves to watch and perform gymnastics, having been a Level 10 gymnast in her teens. She just signed up for an adult gymnastics class at Branch Gymnastics, in Kalamazoo. She just can't seem to keep her feet on the ground.
I spent this past summer playing with my Golden Retriever puppy, Mungo. He came to live with me the first week of June and has kept me extremely busy and low on sleep.
Even though I had a Golden before, I am amazed at how fast he has grown. At 45 pounds, I am finding him impossible to carry--which is okay except for when he pulls "sit down strikes" while we are walking.

I have spent the past two years back in school full time (while teaching full time...yes, I am used to being tired) and received my MFA degree in creative writing from Queens University of Charlotte (NC) in May. To celebrate my kids and I rode the Virginia Creeper Bike Trail and hiked some on the Appalachian Trail.

When I am not writing or teaching, I play clarinet in the Kalamazoo Concert Band, a semi-professional organization. Our concerts are free and are often held in Miller Auditorium on WMU's campus.

I also enjoy graphic and web design, although I've not had much time to pursue either. Each summer I intend on redesigning this website, but once again that did not happen.
