Abstract.  

In this talk, we consider some aspects of models for DNA sequence mutation, utilizing crystal bases for $\mathcal{U}_{q}(sl_2)$ representations, that have been proposed and studied by A. Sciarrino and his collaborators. Through the use of some fun combinatorial models we hope to make this topic accessible to those without knowledge of quantum groups, introducing as well the needed biological background.
