Abstract.  

In this talk, I will be introduce the subject of semirings and one important example "Tropical Semiring." This example is the cradle of an emerging field of mathematics called Tropical Mathematics. I will give an elementary introduction to Tropical Mathematics. If time permits, I will discuss one application of Tropical Mathematics in phylogenetics.
