My name is Karla M. Griffen. I am currently attending Western Michigan University. My goal is to graduate in April of 2006 with an Undergraduate degree in Education. I am hoping to one day become a special education teacher for high school students with learning disabilities and or cognitive impairments. I have pre-interned at Northeastern Elementary in the fall of 2004, the Van Buren Learning Center in the spring of 2004, Loy Norrix High School in the fall of 2005, and finally Richland Elementary in the spring of 2005. I am hoping to be interning at Loy Norrix High School in the fall of 2006. I love to teach. I knew I wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. Outside of my pre-internships I worked at Croyden School for 6 months. It was a really neat expierence. I have also worked at the Byron Family Restaurant, in Byron Center, for 8 years.
I am 22 years old and currently live in Kalamazoo. I grew up in Byron Center Michigan. I attended Byron Center Christian Elementary and Middle School before attending South Christian High School. My number one hobby is reading. I love to read a good book. I also enjoy yoga, dancing, and just lounging around my house with my cat. With working at a restaurant I have become able to cook many types of food. I can also carry 10 plates on my arm! A useless but fun skill! I am also a member of the American Cancer Society. I donate to the foundation and I also participate in events. Along with A.C.S. I donate to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, and again I have participated in events with the foundation. I feel very passionate about both topics. Many people in my family have been affected by both diseases. I hope to continue volunteering in the future. Other than these hobbies I am just a hard working college student!
In my pre-internships I have acquired very good markings. I am hoping to continue doing well in all of my teaching experiences. I am a hard worker in all aspects dealing with teaching.
