My teaching philosophy is geared toward students teaching themselves. This may sound like I don't want to be involved in students learning but just the opposite is the case. I want the students to be able to come up with ideas and solutions to a problem on their own before I step in and teach them anything. Recent Studies have shown, if students come up with the solution to a problem themselves they are more likely to understand how to solve later problems and why the solution works for the problem. I want the students to have as much knowledge about how to learn and how to teach themselves.

My goals in my career are to continue on in my education and recieve a Masters Degree as a Media Specialist. I would like to someday rreturn to my school as a media specialist so I may facilatate other teachers with the workings of computers and any other technology. I would also attend any conference dealing with new up to date technology.

My previous education starts with my graduation from Paw Paw High School. While attending Paw Paw High School I also attended the Lawrence Vocational School. I was in the adult and child care program. We had a nursery set up next to our classroom where we had to work one day a week. On our day in the nursery we had to come up with a lesson plan in a specific area. Over the year we had to create a lesson plan in all the areas of the nursery including arts and crafts, science, math and snack. While at the Lawrence Vocational School I also did a 6 week work study at the Learning Center. I was assigned to an kindergarten class where I did anything the teacher wanted me to do. My jobs included making the snack, cleaning the students up, keeping the students on task and any other activity that may come up. I was also dual-enrolled at Kalamazoo Valley Community College my junior and senior year at Paw Paw High School. When I graduated High School I kept going to KVCC. I transfered to Western Michigan University in 2005 and will be recieving my Bachelor's Degree in Early Education in 2007.

My work experiences include Clare's Botique, Waldenbooks and other retail jobs. I have done alot of retail work where I learned how to work with people and customers. I worked at Target setting up planograms. The last five years I have worked at The Scrapbook Nook in Kalamazoo.

From working at a scrapbook store for five years, I have become very artistic. I have done projects for classes where I used ideas I got from scrapbooking. I love to work with people and scrapbookers are usually really great to work with. I always want to help people with their own ideas for scrapbook pages and I really feel like this has made me a great people person. I love children and I love to babysit and spend time with kids.

My biggest hobby is scrapbooking. I work, live and breathe scrapbooks. I feel like this will be a great asset to me because so many schools are starting to incorporate scrapbooks into the curriculum.Through scrapbooking I have also come across volunteer activites. I have given talks about scrapbooking to groups of people. I also volunteered at the Kalamazoo Community Advocates group and helped out with a scrapbooking class. I have volunteered at the Kalamazoo Valley Muesuem on Chemistry Day teaching a small lesson. I volunteered at Friendship Village, which is a nursing home where I sat with patients, took them on walks and put together games. I volunteered at Curious Kids, which is a day care program in the summer. I worked in a preschool classroom, where I helped lead the kids in their daily activites and I played with them in their free time.
