Emerging Adult Dating Research:

  1. Dating has been a part of people's lives since the 20th century.
  2. The word "dating" is no longer used. Emerging Adults use the words "seeing eachother" or "hanging out."
  3. Emerging Adults date for different reasons. Some date to find their soulmate, while others date to have fun.
  4. Some Emerging Adults want commitment, while others don't want commitment.
  5. First impressions and personality are important to most Emerging Adults.
  6. Emerging Adults look for dependable, mature, stable people to date.
  7. How or who a person dates depends on the type of person they are.
  8. Dating experiences can be positive or negative depending on how each relationship goes.
  9. Just because a guy and a girl (heterosexual), guy and a guy (homosexual) or a girl and a girl (lesbians) are together doesn't mean their dating.

Statistics:

  • 1 in 3 emerging adults experience violence in their relationships.
  • 71% of people believe in love at first sight.
  • 51% of people try to flatter another person to get a date.
  • 9% of women and 2% of men say they've found love in a bar.
  • The number 1 problem in relationships is disagreements about money.
  • 50% of marriages end in divorce.
  • 96% of emerging adults believe that they will reach their goals someday.
  • Most emerging adults believe that they will be "adults" by age 30.
  • At age 30, 75% of of Americans will be marriage and have at least one kid.
