The Grapes of Wrath:
Journal Assignment
As we read the selected parts from The Grapes of Wrath, we will be keeping a journal. Normally, a journal would be a personal collection of your thoughts, questions and expectations while you read through the text. This Journal assignment is a bit different.
For this assignment, you will choose one of the characters from the story and keep a journal as if you were that character and you were experiencing what he/she is experiencing. You will not be required to read the entire novel, parts will be assigned to you. Therefore, it is up to you to completely know YOUR specific character.
Another twist to this assignment is that your journal will not be for just you and me...it will be public. You will be keeping your journal on-line at Blogger.com. This way, your classmates will be able to (and by "able to" I mean "required to") comment on-line about your journal and add their own insights.
You should begin keeping this journal as soon as I assign it in class and keep up with it every day. Also, don't forget to read and comment on everyone else's journals!
As you do this, think about the other novels we have read from this time period (The Great Gatsby and I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings). We will be comparing and contrasting all three novels as we go. What do they all have in common BESIDES time period? What is different about them? Are they all accurate portrayals? How is the American Dream depicted in each of these works? Are they the same? Why or why not? sJot down some thoughts and questions you have as we go in your binders!
If you have any questions, let me know...Have fun!!!
