welcome:
Thank you for visiting the Smith-Britten Family Foodways website.
A family’s foodways, the recipes that form the shared memories and appetites of a family, connect a family. This connection both unites family members with one another and unites a family with its own history. It tells us who we are and who we have been as a family. A family’s foodways are the living history of a family.
The recipes compiled here are a representation of the foods served by my immediate family and my extended family. These are the meals served as weeknight family dinners, the dishes passed at holiday suppers, and the foods brought to family potlucks. These are the recipes of my mother and her mother. These are the foods that my grandmother ate when she was child. Many of them are the same foods I ate as a child.
Please have a look around. If you are a member of the Smith-Britten extended family, please consider sharing your memories, recipes, and photos of the family foodways. Just as a family's foodways are a living history, so too is this website. Together we can continue to build a more complete history. |
