Note that you do not have to call a rent-to-own establishment. I will provide a few examples for you to choose from below.
  1. Pick an object to purchase and be as specific as possible, one that will be easy to find the actual cost.

  2. List the payment, payment period, and length of the lease. (e.g. $10 each week for 4 years)

  3. Calculate the total amount you would pay to own this object if you used the rent to own finance package.

  4. Either surf the net or go to a store to determine the cost of your object if you paid cash at a store.

  5. Determine the factor the rent-to-own package is of the actual cost. (divide your answer from part 3 by your answer from part 4)

Here is an example you can use to answer #1 and #2 (ie copy this word for word for 31 and #2):

You can rent a 20 gig iPod for $18.99 per week for 65 weeks. You may use this info to answer the 5 questions posted above.

Feel free to post other possibilities for solutions to #1 and #2.

This is for anyone who wanted to use something different from the examples given by Eisenhart. I used a Dell Desktop Computer Model #D3000P4. It rented for 44.99 a week for one year. It's retail price was 889.00.
