Collegiate Objective

I just wanted to start out saying how I have such an awesome family and friends. I don’t know where I would be without them today!  I have two lovely parents a mother and a father, whom are both police officers, protecting and serving my community that I live in and two younger sisters.  I am attending Western Michigan University to major in business and criminal justice.

During my high school years, I was involved in a lot of extra curricular activities and one of my activities was yearbook.  The first year I was in yearbook I was a staffer like every other first year student.  I was the one that when you look through your old yearbooks and there’s all that writing on every page… yes, I was the one that did all the writing even though kids just want to look at the pictures and see if they are in any.  Well during my second year I became the advertising manager.  I created ads for businesses, while using Photoshop.  I also used the excel spreadsheets to document all the financial situations for the yearbook.  Throughout all of high school I was told I worked really well with computer and I was really into Photoshop because of yearbook.  That’s when I decided I wanted to major in business and something to do with computers.

Before I even started at Western Michigan University I’ve always thought about becoming a police officer because both my parents and my two uncles are both police officers and the police station felt like a second home to me.  I knew all the police officers in my town and in the downtown area and when I talked to my dad about me wanting to a police officer he just gave all negatives, there were no positives, so I just pushed it out of my mind.  During the first week of school I had three signs that my life wanted to change majors.  Before starting at Western Michigan University, my dad told me I needed to get a job and that I should go an look to see if the WMU Police Department had any openings.  So I did and I had an interview the next day. I was staying a friend’s house and she didn’t have an alarm clock, so I was late for the interview, but I ended up getting the job.  Second, the first week of school we took an occupation test to see what our interests would say about what occupation we should major in.  My occupational test the top choice said law enforcement and the bottom choice business.  Last but not least I ended up getting a fortune cookie one day that said, “Share your gifts with the public.” And that’s when it hit me!  That I should major in criminal justice! So instead of changing majors, I just decided to double major.

Since I am double majoring, it is going to take me quit sometime to graduate, but I decided as a personal goal I wanted to graduate in four years.  I have many requirements for both the majors that I am going to have to take summer classes that way I am not overwhelmed with homework and classes during my next three years at Western.
