Personal Reflection on my Education
I have always been interested in how things work, that is the main reason why I chose Science as one of my minors. In addition to the Science minor, I also have to minor in Mathematics, which is what I would have chosen anyways. Math is an area that I don't get too stressed out over, which is more than most people can say. Besides having these two subjects, I also have to have a third minor in which I am not completely sure on what I am going to choose, more than likely it will be English. The classes that I have taken before this semester have mostly been General Education courses; I transfered from a community college so I was following a transfer program that they offered.
Life Experiences
I have been in the classroom many of times, whether it was to observe, help, or teach the class. Some of my early experience was strictly standing back and watching. Once I was comfortable enough to get involved I started helping the kids with their work, and soon I was teaching my lesson. The high school that I attended had a Senior's Transition class which I took, this class had a section of it that consisted of internships. My first placement was in a first grade classroom, which I again did the observing, helping and teaching. Next, I went to another school and sat in on a freshman class (Theatre and English were taught), and once again it did the typical procedure. My most recent experience was completed when I was at Jackson Community College and we had to complete some in-class time for my Math class. Although I went through the same steps in each of the internships, there were many things that I learned from all of my experiences. I thought that these were the best opportunities that I could have been given because the lessons that you learn from actually teaching a class were so helpful in deciding if I still wanted to teach and if I did, what grade level and wanted to teach at. I actually found out that I don't want to teach either the first or ninth grade!!!
