I want to welcome you and your son or daughter to my language arts classroom.

Much research has been done in recent years that emphasizes the importance of students being able to choose what they read and write and also being given time in school to work on these activities.  The freedom to choose topics which are important to the students are essential ingredients for a literate environment.  In addition, lessons and topics carefully chosen by the teacher will help students build essential skills in writing and reading.

                Reading and writing are the basics.  Language skills, such as usage, spelling, punctuation, vocabulary, and sentence structure will be taught through the individualized and guided writing and reading of your son or daughter.  I try to create an atmosphere in my classroom where natural and purposeful writing, speaking, reading, and listening take place – a place where your son or daughter becomes a more articulate user of language, both written and spoken.
