Course Objective:
This is the last semester that this course will be taught. We are blending the topics of this course into other courses, so we will deal with a mix of topics this year. They will include:
-Review of the definitions and understanding of Recreation, Leisure, and Play. How we define these topics and how they are viewed in our society.
-Review of the Recreation Delivery Systems that we utilize in the United States.
-Review of Risk Management, Risk Recreation, and the problems in Recreation.
-Direct Leadership including planning activities, working with groups, working with students, etc.
Grading:
Assignments: 10%
Attendance: 60%
Projects 30%
Attendance:
You will be allowed one unexcused absence during the semester. After that every absence will result in loss of a letter grade. If you are sick, you must bring a doctorÕs excuse for missing class. You will be excused from class for travel with a WMU Intercollegiate Team. That is intercollegiate competition, not club competition. My advice is that you do not miss class.
Expectations:
I will expect you to be involved in this class. Recreation is a people profession and you are going to be expected to move, talk and interact. In the second half of class we will be conducting group leadership activities. I expect all of you to be involved in the activities and fully participate.
Writing assignments will all be completed on time and handed in when they are due. Late papers will not be accepted. All papers will be neatly typed.
Everyone will be in class on time. If you are 5 minutes late for class, you are considered tardy, if you are tardy two times, that will be considered an absence.
We will use electronic communication (e-mail, WebCT). The e-mail account that you are assigned by WMU is the account which I will use. If you do not use that account, I would advise that you check it.
