Screenplay Specifications

Number each page in the upper right-hand corner; use 12 point Courier for your font.

Spacing: All screenplay page elements are single spaced; double space between elements (these include dialogue blocks, scene descriptions, and stage directions).

Margins: one inch top, right side, and bottom margins;

One and one-half inch left side margin.

Dialogue: begins two and one-half inches from the left edge (another one inch from the left margin); ends one inch from the right margin (two inches from the right edge of the sheet)

Center name of the person speaking in a dialogue block over their line (with their name in all CAPs)

Dialogue cues (in parenthesis) centered, directly below the name of the speaker

Sluglines: aligned left in ALL CAPS: For example,

INT. CLASSROOM – DAY

Screenplays begin with:

FADE IN:

And end with:

FADE OUT.
