Enterprise software is prevalent in almost all businesses today. Learning these skills during college will better prepare us for the programs we will inevitably face when we graduate. Throughout my experience with SAP, during navigation and sales order processing, I am continually amazed by all of the information available and functions that can be accessed through one program. ERP software has taken the convenience of doing business to a whole new level. Instead of sifting through hundreds of databases, queries, or spreadsheets, all of the information is readily available in one program.

In my future profession having a better understanding of the tasks involved in sales order processing will help me to have a more accurate overall view of daily business operations. Though it is doubtful that I will be working directly with sales order processing it is important to be aware of the many processes taking place in the business world around us. Software technology and computers in general are creating a whole new way of life and of doing business. The larger amount of tasks that you can complete in a days work will increase business productivity. All companies are seeking expansion and enterprise software are undoubtedly going to be a part of that development.

In my personal life seeing the comparisons and contrasts of enterprise software versus end user software are very important. Coming to the realization of the convenience of having all data and information in one program is revolutionary. Through sales order processing and just the simple task of navigating through SAP I have realized the importance of ERP programs.

SAP has provided me with knowledge about sales order processing that I couldn’t get through Microsoft office. So much of the world revolves around computers and technology making ERP software a necessary and proper component to every business in an industry.

Self Assessment

Now that we have completed the sales order processes using SAP I have a clearer picture of what ERP software has to offer a company or organization. The navigation skills we learned in the earlier stages of this project made it easier to maneuver through the system when following the procedures in the sales order process. After completing this project we were able to follow the entire processes involved in operating a business when using one system to achieve your goals.

In my future profession I more than likely use SAP or a very similar ERP system. Although we won’t use this system to produce orders for raw materials or products to sell, we are able to utilize this system for operational functions. Having all business process centralized in one system will allow our company to operate at an optimal and efficient level. Having employee data, job vacancies, job description and salary information together on one system is ideal for a Human Resource Manager. Now that I’ve learned how to navigate and the sales ordering processes of SAP I will have an advantage over other professionals in my field when entering the workforce.

The knowledge and skills I’ve gained using SAP will be beneficial in future business management classes I have to take before completing my degree. I am also able to utilize our Universities ERP, Banner to its full potential. Before completing this project I would sign onto Banner and become overwhelmed with the various options available and would sign out immediately. Now, I’m confident when using Banner to make changes in my personal and professional data.

Learning the complete process involved in using one system to complete every business function of a company will make it easier for me to recommend this system or one similar to our organization. Being introduced to SAP is confirmation for me that today’s technology is moving in the right direction. Systems are being created to make running a business, large or small as simple and convenient as possible.

This project had tons to offer myself, not only was I able to explore a new computer project but also I learned how many other types of Enterprise Resource Planning(ERP) systems that are out there that I use everyday. Working through the Sales Ordering Process of SAP, I was able to see how this program is so beneficial to many critical things in organizations. As I read more about different companies, I have learned about some of their processes and see how it would be impossible to conduct the research they do manually. Having a system that automatically tracks incoming and outgoing information makes it possible to always have the opportunity to improve and look for better ways to conduct business.

In my personal life, I can’t see this program helping me as much as in my professional career. I could though see a system of its kind in the future that I would be able to utilize in my personal life. When thinking of the bills I have to pay and keep them aligned with my income, I could see some kind of system that would allow me to enter all of my expenses and monthly they would deduct automatically from my bank account, this is one way I could see a system of this kind influencing my future personal life.

In my future profession, I can see this type of system being used all of the time, mainly because I use one now everyday called Rio. This system is provided to us from Sysco, which is our food and supply distributor at the restaurant I manage. Everyday we are able to just process our order through this system and it electronically connects right to our representative and we see the order the next day. This has made our jobs much easier and they continue to show us new ways to always make it easier on us.

Overall, I believe the SAP Sales Ordering Process is extremely effective for large organizations. It is seen to make things very easy for individuals and is accurate and available for customers. I look forward to working with other systems like this in the future.
