My name is Miss Marti Newell. I grew up in Hopkins, Michigan. My father and mother attended the same high school that I graduated from. While in high school, I taught many students while participating in my band class. Through band I taught young students how to play their new instruments. I graduated from Hopkins High School in 2003. After I graduated high school, I traveled to Kalamazoo, Michigan to attend Western Michigan University (WMU.) While at WMU, I recieved my degree in Elementary Education. Through pursuing my degree, I was placed in classrooms where I was able to teach lessons to students. The lessons that I taught my students, I based what my students were interested in. Creating lessons based on their interests students never seemed bored and always wanted to learn more about the subject. After recieving my degree, I recieved a job teaching 5th grade at Walnut Elementary School in Lakefront, Michigan and have been here for 5 years. I love Lakefront and Walnut Elementary where parents are very involved in their daily lives.

Thank you parents, as Jesse Jackson said "Your children need your presence more than your presents." I have seen this through your children and you have done an excellent job.
