Biological Anthropology
Websites
- eskeleton project
- I like this website because it allows you to compare
the
skeletal features of primate and human skeletons. You can choose the
species, bone, and orientation of the image you wish to see. After
completing the form, the pictures you request appear side by side.
- Maybe what you
really like are bugs...
- This website covers forensic entomology, or the
importance
of bugs and larvae in determining the time of death in a forensics case.
- Human
teeth
- Each tooth is available in a rotating view/video. I
found
that the video plays really fast, but you can slide the tracker through
the video slowing, and it shows the disarticulated (lose) tooth
rotating 360 degrees and ends on the occlusal (biting) surface.
- Osteointeractive
- This page desperately needs an update, but it has
some news
stories that featured cases in forensic anthropology. The news stories
are interesting, but see professional organizations links below for up
to date conference information.
- Dental Microwear
- Learn how teeth retain microscopic wear patterns that
reflect what we eat. Studies on living primates show how different
diets change the microwear patterns on teeth. Therefore, teeth that are
found and studied show what the individual was eating just before he or
she died.
- Fossil Hominids: The Evidence for Human Evolution
- General information about Paleoanthropology. Includes links for current literature and news articles.
- The Hobbit: Homo floresiensis
- Remember the "Hobbit" that was found in 2003? Learn more about its species on this page. See also National Geographic.
- Becoming Human
- A documentary about Becoming Human presented by ASU's Institute of Human Origins (formerly the Anthropology Department).
- Resource Guide to Paleoanthropology
- Contains many different pages related to all aspects of Biological Anthropology. This website is provided by the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.
- The Leakey Foundation
- Apparently the famous name was not enough, they needed a
foundation. I wish I was born a Leakey, then I might have been better
funded for grad school... <sigh>
- Understanding Race
- A project of the AAA. A very interesting research project on race.
