Welcome to Math 230.
This is a brief "heads up" message, to assist you in
getting a good start in the course.
Math 230 introduces you to a whole new level of abstraction in mathematics. We will be learning new definitions and theorems everyday.
To get a good grade in the course, you must show that you've learnt how to use the language of linear algebra with a decent level of precision.
Your written work must contain reasoning -- that means complete sentences that present a logical argument, and use proper grammar and spelling.
The Student Study Guide, written by Leon, will help you. For
example, for every section, it is important
for you to make a list of the definitions and theorems in the
section. Then study the list till you are thoroughly familiar
with it. The study guide helps you make this
list. It also provides hints and partial solutions to selected
exercises from the Leon text.
Regular
class attendance throughout the semester is required.
You
are expected to bring the Leon text to every class.
Quizzes
will be given every week, usually on Wednesdays. The lowest
quiz score will be dropped. NO make-up quizzes will be
given.
