Class Time

MTWR 1 - 1:50pm, Rood 3309. Please turn beepers and cell phones off during class. Regular attendance is required.

Prerequisite

Math 3740 with a grade of C or better.

Advanced engineering Mathematics by E. Kreyszig, 10th edition, Wiley. Please bring this text with you to every class.

Vector Analysis, Schaum's Outline Series
Complex Variables, Schaum's Outlines Series 
Low-priced, with oodles of solved practise problems, used by generations of students. Look for them on-line.

Software

Maple. Available in most computer labs on campus.

*Syllabus:  Chapters 9, 10, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17.

*Attendance: Regular attendance is required.

*Homework:  Check http://homepages.wmich.edu/~mackey/Teaching/572/hw572-f12.pdf for assigned problems. It is essential to do the homework regularly, as weekly quizzes and exams will be based on homework problems.  Working together in study groups is highly recommended. Maintain a separate notebook of solutions. Write up neat, complete solutions, including reasoning and explanatory sentences. Make use of my office hours if you have questions.

*Quizzes:  10-minute quizzes will be held every Thursday at the end of the class period. No make-up quizzes will be given; instead, your lowest quiz score will be dropped.

*Exams:   Tentative dates for 50 miniute in-class exams are Thurs Oct 11 and Tues Nov 20. A comprehensive two-hour Final Exam will be held during Finals Week, on Mon Dec 10, from 2:45 to 4:45pm.

*Makeups for exams will be permitted only in those cases when a student documents a genuine medical or personal emergency. The lowest quiz score will be dropped, and no makeup quizzes will be given.

Incompletes will not be granted under any circumstances when a student is doing unsatisfactory work; such students are advised to withdraw from the course.
