BIOS 3010: ECOLOGY

Literature cited style to use for future assignments

(see the journal Ecology for more detailed instructions)

This is how the reference should look in the text when referring to the first and sixth papers in the following literature cited section (Anderson and May 1981, Ebert et al. 2000).  Also notice that the list is alphabetical (it is also chronological if the same author has multiple publications spanning several years).

  1. Journal article with 2 authors.
  2. Journal article with one author.
  3. Article by same as 2, but with additional author comes after.
  4. Book chapter format.
  5. Book format.
  6. Journal article with more than 2 authors (i.e. Only use et al. for 3 or more authors in the text, do not use et al. in your bibliography).
  7. 7 & 8 notice multiple publications by the same person in the same year use a & b etc. to distinguish them in the text (i.e MacNeil et al. 2003a, MacNeil et al. 2003b).
  8. For other questions about style check the bibliography of any paper published in Ecology.
