Competency Validation System (CVS)

One of the major changes to the system this year was the change to a Competency Validation System (CVS). This improved the practicum for several reasons. The students will now have written proof that they are competent in the skills they have completed during the practicum. They are given a list of core competencies that they must complete and they are also given elective competencies that they can select from to complete. This also allows the supervisor of the practicum a system to ensure that all of the students graduating from the practicum have obtained the skills they will need on the job. This will be an aspect of the system that will be continually updated as the needs of the students change.

Supervision Meeting

Another change that was made to the practicum was the structure of the supervision meeting. The number of students in the practicum has increased and there were over fifteen students being supervised this year. These changes lead to the supervision meeting being very long and tedious. In addition, due to having so many students there was not much time for each student to explain their case in depth. This leads the system supervisors and managers to come up with a new meeting format. In addition, each week every student is responsible for sending an update to Dr. Kaye, the system manager, the junior system manager, and their supervisor.

Manual

The manual for the system was also changed. The old manual had several problems. Not all of the links worked with different operating systems. In addition, the folders and documents in the manual did not have good names. The names were not descriptive and therefore did not indicate what documents they were. The manual was not user friendly. In addition, the manual is something that is also updated to reflect the changes in the practicum.
