For this project I explored an animal as a topic for an in-depth series of graphic form studies. I chose to do a toucan because it was an animal I was not familiar with and it had a lot of intricate shapes within its form. This multi week project consisted of five phases: research and sketching, black and white studies, form/color, a page spread and a book collaboration. Bellow are the phases I designed and work with over a course of many weeks.
Black and white studies These four studies were done using gouche paint.
Color/form studies Final book design.
These studies were done using Adobe Illustrator CC.
