Attending college for me is a very personal affair. Ever since I was a small child, I knew that I wanted to go to college to better myself. Growing up in my family when I was younger, there weren't that many members of the family that were in college or that went to college. I am the second youngest of my father's children, and I am the only one of his children to consider college and actually go. I have a lot of younger cousins, which I consider to be like brothers and sisters because we are all close as if we were siblings. My younger cousins that are going into high school, I try to inform them about college. Even though my younger cousins have older siblings around my age to look up to, I prefer for them to look at me as an example of what to be like, instead of their older siblings because they are not on the right track. My cousins are making babies and I just want to show my younger cousins that school is way better than lying around making babies when you are too young, mentally, and financially not stable to take care of a child when you are still a child yourself. Also I have nieces and nephews that aren't in school yet, but I try to express to them that they have to go to school to better themselves. I just want to stress how important school is to my younger generations.

During my time at Western, I have been working towards an accounting degree, but lately I have come to realize that I don't like math at all. I feel that Social Work, would be a better outlook for me and I will make a better contribution to society. I will major in Social Work and receive an emphasis in Entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship will be great for me to have a background in because I want to own a number of my own business while working in a family services agency. My first business will be my 24 hour day care. I totally understand that everyone do not have the same work schedule. Sometimes parents just want to have a night out without the kids around. My day care will not only be safe, caring, and loving, but most importantly affordable. Affordability is a major issue in today's economy, everyone is struggling to make it, and I feel that my day care will be just what parents need. My next will be a non-profit shelter for struggling youth. At my shelter I will have beds, a dining hall, an area for lounging, and counselors to help with the needs of the patrons. I would like to help the struggling youth find jobs, housing, and scholarships of course to help better themselves. As you can tell, I am really concerned about helping people, because I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to go to college and better themselves.
