Career Day Memo
I
was pleased to get a chance to talk to you on career day at Western Michigan
University. As we talked I realized
that Dayton Freight Lines does seem like a company I would like to internship
for, but I would need to find an internship that would allow me to work more in
my major field of study, accounting. I
know you said that the only internships you had available were for people to
work on the docks, currently I am doing very similar work otherwise I would
jump at the opportunity to get a chance to join such a great company.
Being
my first career fair I was a little overwhelmed by all the people and the
hustling from vendor to vendor. When I
walked up to talk, you looked happy to see me and just started right in
answering my questions which I found to be very calming for myself. My experience while interviewing and
questioning you about the Dayton Freight Lines Company was a good one. I learned a lot of valuable information
about your company, one fact being that you make your future managers take a 26
week training program and make them work on all the aspects of your company from
loading the trucks, to delivery, and then to the behind the scenes work of
doing reports and setting up the plans for the day.
Some
of the lessons I will take back from our conversation are to be calm and come
with some questions already in mind. I
will definitely try to do more research on the companies I plan to talk with in
the future. The reason for this is so
that I don=t ask questions that I should know the answer to
when I come talk to a employer about possible internships. The other thing I will do is make sure I
look for what type of jobs the companies are looking to fill with internships,
this way I can avoid wasting my time and the time of the vendors that come to
career day.
Thank
you for your time on career day and your willingness to explain Dayton Freight
Lines daily operations and job opportunities to me.
