In Fall 2004, I completed my pre-internship at Paw Paw Middle School in a 7th grade classroom. In the classroom I helped maintain classroom management, aided with assignments and sometimes led the classroom readings and lessons. It was a very beneficial experience, there were certain days that I was in total control of the classroom and I find that its experiences like that that will help my teaching in my future.

Throughout college I also participated in some tutoring of fellow students in history classes. Though I was not in any of their classes I still was able to help them raise their grades one full level. It was from these tutoring sessions that I figured teaching might be a good calling for me.

At the end of the summer 2004 I was an ambassador for the Bronco Days program. For the program I was in charge of a group of 12 incoming freshmen. It was an interesting experience to take part in, I likened controlling and helping to a high school classroom. The incoming freshman were new to the campus and college life so it was my job to get them familiar with the surroundings and to meet new people.

I unfortunately have not been involved any work experience with youth for the past three years I have working in a warehouse for Renewal By Andersen windows coordinating the installers and their materials. The summer before that I worked for myself as a painter. I had to go out and find customers, materials and everything else that went with the job.

In college I have been involved in a few organizations on campus. As a freshman I was the secretary for the Residence Hall Association. The Association is responsible for helping the Residence Halls become better and more enjoyable place for students to live. As part of the executive board it was my duty to take notes during the meeting but also make sure that our members were doing their appointed positions and attending events we put on.

For the past two years I have been participating in the Campus Activities Board. For this organization I helped out with their comedian events. I would help put on events, pick up and entertain the different comedians and generally help set up the venue.

My educational philosophy is that no student is beyond learning, many do not wish to learn but none are beyond it. It is hard to reach today’s youth who seem to have more on their minds than their education, especially history, but the important thing is to make it applicable to their life.

History is not the youth of today’s most favorite subject to learn in school. It is considered something that can never be applied in life. My goal is to reach the students by showing that history as a subject can be used in society and everyday life.

One of my favorite pastimes is the game of football, whether it is watching it or playing it. Every year I have put together a co-ed flag football, which I always a great time for everyone involved. When I’m not playing football in the fall I am usually watching college of professional football on television. Aside from that whenever I have free time I’m usually reading books about history. I guess it is good thing because my major is history, I have always been interested in learning more about various historical subjects. When I’m not bogged down with homework I always enjoy the large library we have here on campus.
