Surviving College With Limited Means

RECIPES

Every college student knows that Ramean noodles are the quick fix to hunger.  What if someone is looking for something other than noodles in a salty liquid?    To cut costs, I recommend that if you have roommates, that you occasionally cook meals for everyone.  This way, everyone eats, but not everyone shares the cost burden.  When doing this, be aware of allergies that your roommates might have.  Also make sure that when you are cooking for your roommates that they actually know the ingredients to what you are making.  This alleviates the opportunity for your roommates to have a look of disgust when they put Chili Peppers in their mouths. You could also collaborate with your roommates or neighbors and each one of you could buy a few items for the meal.  The following section provides recipes that have very few ingredients in them.  The recipes’ ingredients are low cost, and very economical.

            Cheeseburger Casserole
This recipe is simple, and a great alternative for people that do not wish to buy hamburger buns.  The recipe calls for two pounds of Ground Beef, one can of Cheddar Cheese Soup, Salt, and Pepper (to taste), and a package of Tator Tots.  The first step is to pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees.  The second step is to place the two pounds of Ground Beef at the bottom of a 9x13 casserole dish.  Spread the Ground Beef evenly.  Sprinkle some Salt and Pepper over the Ground Beef.  Then spoon out the Cheddar Cheese Soup on top of the Ground Beef.  Spread the Cheddar Cheese Soup Evenly.  Disperse the bag of Tator Tots on top of the Cheddar Cheese Soup. Spread the Tator Tots evenly, and bake for an hour.

   Spinach Florentine
This recipe calls for 20 ounces of frozen chopped Spinach, one pound of fresh mushrooms, 1/3 cup of chopped onions, ¼ cup of melted butter, ¼ teaspoon of Garlic Salt, one teaspoon of Salt, and one cup sharp Cheddar Cheese that is grated.  To make this delicious meal, you must first preheat the oven to 350 degrees.  Use a half quart casserole dish.  Thaw the Spinach and press dry.  Sauté mushrooms and onions in butter.  Add Salt and Garlic Salt.  Place half of the Spinach in casserole dish; add ½ of mushroom mixture, and half of cheese. Repeat. Bake for 30 minutes uncovered.
Mexican Pizzas
All you need for this recipe is rounded hard corn chips, canned refried beans, diced tomatoes, Mexican blend Cheese, Taco Seasoning, and one pound of Ground Beef.  First you brown the meat.  Then drain the meat.  Then follow Taco Seasoning instructions.  Once that is done smear a good helping of refried beans a top the rounded hard corn chips.  Place the seasoned Ground Beef on top of that.  Then add the Mexican blend Cheese and dice tomatoes on top.  Put in the oven at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes or until cheese is melted.
