PBL Steps

(Each group does most of these steps together!)

1. Read the problem twice, carefully out loud.
2. Plan for meeting the objectives.
3. Interpret problem, summarize it. Scribe: Write it on the chalkboard.
4. Fill out Getting Started Form.
5. Construct Know/ Don’t Know/ Schedule chart.
6. Conduct research.
7. Assess sources’ trustworthiness. Read all; use only trustworthy ones.
8. Share sources: focus on how each source answers the problem's main questions.
9. Write Reading Records.
10. Update know/don't know chart.
11. Read problem again, interpret and summarize it again.
12. Discuss Possible Responses to Problem.
13. Identify possible main points.
14. As you debate these proposed main points, play the roles of supporters and devil's advocates. Before beginning, announce to the group which role you're going to play.
15. Consult the Possible Group Learning Activities page to decide what activity would most help the group next.
16. Construct 4 Questions for an Introduction Form.
17. Fill out Evaluation of Introduction Rubric.
18. Write your Introductions.
19. Assess completion of research. If satisfactory, go to step 19. If not, return to step 5.
20. Share introductions with the group.
21. Write first draft of paper.
22. Rewrite paper.
23. Revise paper using LRS.
24. Fill out paper rubric.
25. Fill out group's rubric on how well the group worked together.
26. Revise paper again using LRS.
27. As a group, read the problem again aloud.
28. Get a peer review of your paper.
29. Revise paper carefully one more time. Yes, one last time!!!
30. Attach the attachments in the order specified in the problem.
31. Submit paper.
32. Assess oneself on objectives met.
33. After you get your paper back from Jerry, review his suggestions.
34.

Ask Jerry about suggestions you don't understand or agree with.
