Assignment IX – Future Career Plans

4-04-06

The Fourteen Year Plan

Years 0-2

During these two years I plan to search for and secure a position in which I can gain experience that will compliment the technical consulting work I am currently doing. My hope is that this will give more creditability to the past five years of my life and will solidify me into a very marketable person. This position in very open to interpretation, but I would like it to link me into being able to secure a position at an education institution as a chief technology officer.

Years 3-5

Around the beginning of year three I plan to begin looking into securing a position as the Director or Coordinator of Technology with an educational institution which I believe will challenge me and utilize all the previous experience I have gained. In this role I plan to further hone my expertise in the technical arena and specifically implement the integration of mobility into a schools platform of teaching.

Years 5-10

Once I reach this timeframe I will have gained over 10yrs of usable experience. It is at this point in my career that I expect to begin to diversify my earning areas over not just my expertise but also business investments, real estate, and the stock market. My primary job will still be (hopefully) in an educational institution. Additionally, I hope that there is still a pension within this job, but if not I will have given significant portions of my income to my 401k and/or IRA.

Years 10-14

In the remaining years till 2020 I will continue to diversify my interests. While I hope, as previously mentioned, that the company I work for would offer a pension and I would be very close to retirement, I highly doubt it will be the case. As such, it is during this time that I will be looking to start my own consulting business on the side. I plan to have a niche worked out which will allow me to provide expertise combined with a very personalized service. By combining these elements I should be able to maintain my employability until I retire.
