Miss Robin Bouton's Teaching Philosophy
I have always believed that teaching is one of the most challenging, but rewarding careers. Teachers have a unique yet overwhelming responsibility that shapes their future and more importantly the future of the students. Since it is such a high responsibility, I feel that it is my job and duty to teach and shape the world around me into a better place. Teachers must meet all challenges head-on, while still taking time for students support and development.
Career and Job Goals
Ever since I can remember I have wanted to be a teacher. It was my 1st grade teacher who influenced me. She was a great person, but not a very good teacher. She was warm and friendly, but didn't make her students feel very good about themselves in the classroom. There were some teaching techniques that she used that I don't agree with now that I look back on it. She rewarded her students with prizes every time they succeeded in something, which made the other classmates less of a person. At the time, I didn't mind getting candy or free dinner with my teacher, but I look back on it now and I would have rather been given a sticker on my paper or a good job than a free meal. That's when I realized that I wanted to become something that Miss Rivard never was. I want to give my students the chance to succeed like I am doing right now in my life. I want to be a teacher that my students will remember when they grow up. After I graduate from Western Michigan University I'm going to start looking for teaching jobs in the Emmet County area, hopefully in the1st or 2nd grade level.
