| Polo Ralph Lauren is galloping at a faster clip than when founder Ralph Lauren first entered the arena. With golden mallet brands such as Polo, Chaps, Lauren, and Club Monaco, the firm designs and markets apparel, accessories, fragrances, and home furnishings. Polo prefers licensing over manufacturing and manages many licensees, as well as more than 350 contract manufacturers worldwide. It operates about 290 retail and outlet stores in the US and licenses more than 100 others worldwide. Founder Ralph Lauren controls some 90% of Polo's voting power. The firm bought Ralph Lauren Footwear -- a unit of Reebok International and its global footwear licensee -- for about $110 million, as well as control of Polo.com. |
