Course Description
This course will examine how narrative histories were written in the High Middle Ages (900-1200) in western Europe and their use for both medieval and modern historians. Selections will exemplify different types or genres of historical writing and will emphasize France and England but not to the exclusion of neighboring areas of western Europe. The class will also consider the possibilities for doing research on the various types of narrative or in the regions to which they pertain.
