Western Michigan University's Department of Blindness and Low Vision Studies is the oldest and largest—and one of the most respected programs of its kind—in the world, with academic programs consistently rated among the best in the nation. It is very hard for most people to imagine losing their vision or becoming low vision. Learning to live a life as fulfilling as possible is thought to be completely out of reach for many that lose their vision, but Western Michigan University trains some of the best in consultants in the entire world to make that a possibility for as many people as they can. It is my intention to use the skills I learn through this program to help people who lose their vision working with the Canadian National Institute of the Blind, otherwise known as the CNIB
