Assistant Professor Science Education
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill supports science education through its world-renowned science departments, a major medical center, and the Morehead Planetarium. Within the School of Education, the Center for Mathematics and Science Education Center provides teacher professional development and student encouragement activities, and LEARN North Carolina (www.learnnc.org) provides online support for teachers statewide. The School of Education seeks a tenure-track assistant professor of science education showing strong promise of advancing research, teaching and service in this field.
Responsibilities: (a) Engage in research, writing, and other scholarly activities that contribute to science education; (b) Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in science education; (c) Advise students; (d) Assist in School of Education initiatives related to science education; and (d) Provide local, state, and national service.
Required qualifications include: (1) Earned doctorate in science education or a related field with a science education focus; (2) Evidence of an initial agenda in research and scholarship in science education that may include research publications and/or presentations in science education; and (3) three years of science teaching experience in K-8 schools or related experiences and eligibility for North Carolina licensure. Preference will be given to applicants with experience teaching in culturally diverse settings and expertise in applications of technology in teaching and learning science and/or science education.
