College of Arts & Sciences and School of Education, Indiana University
Title: Professor of Biology and of Science Education
Rank: Associate or Full Professor (depending upon interests and
qualifications)
The College of Arts and Science and School of Education at Indiana
University, Bloomington, seek a senior-level faculty member well-versed
in research in both biology and science education. This person will join
an expanding collaboration of science and mathematics educators in the
Institute for STEM Education, the Office of Science Outreach, and the
P-16 Center, and will have joint affiliation with the Department of
Biology (College of Arts and Sciences) and the Science Education Program
(School of Education). This appointment is expected to begin on or after
August 2007.
The successful candidate is expected to have an earned doctoral degree
either in the life sciences or in science education, and to have a
strong background and demonstrated effectiveness in the complementary
arena, and thus have excellent knowledge of both the biological and
educational research literatures. We envision either a biologist with
educational expertise, or a science educator with a strong background in
biology. The candidate will be expected to continue a successful
research program in biology education, and to be able to communicate
exceptional pedagogical design to science colleagues across the K-16
spectrum. The teaching program will include such courses as biology
courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels for preservice and
in-service teachers, taught with content and strategies that model the
methods we hope teachers will emulate, and graduate seminars in science
pedagogy. The candidate will also participate periodically in
professional development activities toward cultivating collaborative
relationships between the university and K-12 school systems.
