A Little About Me...

I am currently 21 years old and I grew up in Rochester Hills, Michigan. Back home with my parents, I have two cats, one dog, and one bird. I am a huge animal lover which is why I volunteer for Kalamazoo Animal Rescue, helping out at Adoption Events and wherever else I am needed. During high school, I was on the JV Tennis team for two years and I was also the Copy Editor of our high school yearbook. I started working when I was 14 at the downtown Rochester Hills Public Library. I continued to work during the school year and the juggling of tennis, work, and school helped me to grow up faster than most of my peers. I worked there for 4 years, graduated high school, and started college at Western Michigan University.

At Western Michigan University, I am now a Senior double-majoring in Human Resources Management and Spanish. I have taken Spanish since middle school, and am now entering my tenth year of speaking it. After high school graduation, I traveled to Spain for two weeks. During the first week, my group and I explored popular cities such as Madrid, Seville, Cordoba, Toledo, and Granada. The second week was spent with a host family just outside of Leon. This was an experience I will never forget, because while it was only for a week, I was never more fluent in Spanish than I was then. My family did not speak any English and I learned a lot about the culture and their every day habits.

At Western, I am an active member of the Society for Excellence in Human Resources organization (a SHRM chapter) and am currently looking to become the organization's Treasurer. I find HR exciting in that it is always changing and you are always learning. Right now, I have an internship with Alcoa and I have been working there for over a year. I started my internship before taking any HR classes, and I feel I have learned as much or more at my internship than I could have in my classes. I'm also juggling a second job, working as a Tech Center Aide at the downtown Kalamazoo Public Library.

As for my hobbies, I love to read, edit & write resumes, play tennis & basketball, go to Pistons games, bike, ski, take pictures, and run (I have participated in four 5ks now). I love to travel - I've been to Canada multiple times, various U.S. states including Alaska, Spain, Jamaica, Haiti, Cayman Islands, and Mexico twice. I want to travel as much as possible in the future, and right now my dream trip is either a trip to Italy or a trip to Hawaii.

Here is a little something that I like to look at every now and then:

-If you woke up this morning with more health than illness...you are more blessed than the million who will not survive this week.
-If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation...you are ahead of 500 million people in the world.
-If you can attend a church meeting without fear of harassment, arrest, torture, or death...you are more blessed than three billion people in the world.
-If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof over your head, and a place to sleep...you are richer than 75% of this world.
-If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace...you are among the top 8% of this world’s wealthy.
-If your parents are still alive and still married...you are very rare, even in North America.
-If you hold up your head with a smile on your face and are truly thankful...you are blessed because the majority can, but most do not.
-If you can hold someone’s hand, hug them or even touch them on the shoulder...you are blessed because you can offer a healing touch.
