| My Professional Experience
& Objective I have worked at two libraries for the past 7 years, a medical office for 2 summers, and a Fortune 500 company for the past year. At the medical office (Northpointe Heart Center in Berkley, MI), I learned what it was really like to work in an office setting. I became better at multi-tasking, communication, organization, and workplace conflict. I experienced petty rumors, confrontation, and constant gossip and I came out of it all smiling and with an Employee of the Month award. My most valuable lesson from this job was how to get along with others in the workplace; a task that is oftentimes not as easy as one would think. During the past year, I have worked as an Human Resources Intern for Alcoa - a Fortune 500 company. I jumped head-first into a job I was completely unfamiliar with and found a way to succeed. I was primarily responsible for the management of 500 personnel files, successfully implementing a new filing system and discarding any papers according to the Alcoa Retention standards. It was a daunting task, since the personnel files had not been cleaned out in the 20 years of the company's existence, but with the help and cooperation of co-workers, I was able to finish the project in less than a year. Right now, I am planning on taking either the GRE or GMAT to attend graduate school. My graduate school plans could go one of two directions: I hope to get accepted into Michigan State University's Labor Relations graduate program, but first I will have to see where I am with my internship at Alcoa. I hope to get hired in upon graduation and if I do, I will attend Western Michigan University for graduate school. I also plan on taking the PHR (Professionals in Human Resources) exam in order to become certified and more knowledgeable in my field. I aspire to start as an HR Generalist and from there move my way up to HR Manager. However, once I am securely positioned in my "dream job", the learning won't stop there. HR is a constantly changing field, and I will have to keep up with it by attending conferances, reading HR magazines & newsletters, and getting recertified.
