My Life
I was born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan where I lived with my Dad, Mom, and younger sister. My parents homeschooled my sister and me all the way through school, which gave us the opportunity to work at our own pace and on the material that was most appropriate for us and our learning abilities. We were also a part of several co-op groups and took a number of outside classes from other homeschool moms and dads who were strong in a certain subject area. After completing high school I went on to receive my associate of science degree in special education from Kalamazoo Valley Community College, and now I am pursuing a bachelors of science degree in special education at Western Michigan University.
Family has always been an important part of my life, and we have always had a close relationship with each other. We have enjoyed many family vacations through out the years including traveling to Florida, Washington DC, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Colorado, Calafornia, Canada, and probably our all time favorite Macinac Island, Michigan.
Church activities are also very important to me. I attend and have been very active in various programs at Immanuel Fellowship Independent Reformed Church, and I am looking forward to going on a mission trip to Mississippi with church this summer. I have also attended a number of Christian worldview conferences throughout the United States.

Diverse Experiences
I went bowling with the students at Croyden Avenue School where I work part time. Many of them were in wheelchairs, so I wheeled them up to the lane, and they pushed the ball down a metal ramp and into the lane. At Croyden I work primarily with students who have severe cognitive impairments. There are students of several different ethnicities including African American, Hispanic, Indian, and European American. |
One of my practicum experiences through Western Michigan University was working in an English classroom for students with learning disabilities at Loy Norrix High School. The young lady who I am working with in the picture is Hispanic. |
There is a great deal of diversity at Loy Norrix High School, and about half of the student
population is African American.
For my practicum I taught in an earth science classroom at Loy Norrix High School for students with learning disabilities. In this picture I am explaining the moon rotating around the earth. My volunteer student in the earth, and I am the moon. |
In the English classroom for students with learning disabilities at Loy Norrix High School, I spent a lot of time working one-on-one with students to motivate them and help them to understand various grammar and writing concepts. |
