Title: “Surfing Parenting Your Children Online”

Section: Safe Surfing

How it can be used in the classroom: I would use this in my classroom to send home a newsletter to my student’s parents about what type of issues are out there on the internet. I would also discuss this with my classroom probably the first week of class before they even start using the internet to get my students familiar with different problems and issues about the internet. I would inform both my students and their parents that as a class we will be using the internet and that I already have gone over the rules and expectations of their children. I would also have posters hanging around my classroom about the rules and expectations of my students using the internet; also to remind them what links are bad, or pop-ups not to go to,etc..

Title: “An Internet Glossary”

Section: Safe Surfing

How it can be used in the classroom: In my classroom I would have my students take a quiz over this information. This would probably be one of my first quiz’s. I want my student’s to become familiar and aware of the different types of e-mailing, homepages, different links or the different service providers. I feel that if this is established at the beginning then as a class we will be able to focus more on school projects. I would ask them questions like what does HTML stand for or what is a homepage.

Title: E-mail tips, Guidelines and Etiquette

Section: Safe Surfing

How it can be used in the classroom: This website is great for students because many young teens are e-mailing today and it gives great tips about what to do and not to do. I would definitely have all my students review this website in the beginning of the school. This lets them know, even if they thought they knew before, what is appropriate for school and at home. I would use this site if any one of my students would be using the internet or e-mailing incorrectly or inappropriately, I would have them write me an essay about this site if I found they were doing inappropriately in my classroom.
