CHEM 3750 Exams / Clicker & Bonus Points
  Grading Policies
 

Exams
Exams are given during the regular lecture period; they are closed book; no memory aid permitted. The lowest hour exam score will be dropped automatically and NO MAKEUP EXAMS WILL BE GIVEN.

Four one-hour exams will be given during class time. Exam dates are:

 

Exam 1 - Sept 30 (W), Exam 2 - Oct 19 (M), Exam 3 - Nov 9 (M), Exam 4 - Dec 4 (F)

Cumulative Final Exam - Dec 17 (R)


The final exam will be worth 200 pts and with 20 multiple choice and 20 short answer questions is twice the length of an hour exam.

Midterm grades were submitted Nov 1. Grades were based on both exam scores and 34 possible clicker points thus far. Bonus points were included in the total score.

  The grade ranges vary from year to year, but the class average is generally at or just below the B/C borderline and ca 60% of all points are required to obtain a passing grade of C or better. A grade of "I" cannot be issued for students who are failing the course (DC or lower).
   
   
 

Clicker Questions (scores are listed here)
Clicker Questions will be given during lecture; one point per correct answer for a max of 50 point


Each one-hour exam is 100 points - 300 pts max
Clicker Points- 50 pts max
Final exam - 200 pts

Total points - 550 max.
This does not include bonus point questions on exams and for special lectures (30 total).

   
 

Seminar Bonus Points (5 pts each, sign in before seminar begins, please arrive on time and do not disrupt the lecture by arriving late or leaving early, plan ca 1 hr 15 minutes for each event):
Attend seminars on broader issues of science and its impact and receive bonus points.

  Plan B: Students who have a valid reason for not attending the lectures need to contact me by e-mail by the lecture date to ask for an alternative task in order to earn bonus points. Academic dishonesty policies will be applied should the alternative task involve a report. Dishonest behavior, e.g. cheating and plagiarizing, will be treated according to WMU policies.
