Deadline Policy
Producing the news is a deadline-driven process. Meeting deadlines is crucial for your success in journalism. In this class, you will be expected to adhere to the professional practices of journalism, including meeting deadlines.
In-class assignments are due at the end of class unless otherwise stated. Assignments will not be accepted after the instructor has collected them.
Story Assignments are due at the scheduled beginning of class. Assignments turned in after the instructor has collected them are late. An additional 20 points will be deducted from the grade earned on assignments turned in any time after the instructor has collected them. The duration of time that has passed since the deadline does not matter -- late is late. However, assignments turned in 2 hours or later after the deadline will not be accepted at all and will be assigned a grade of 0. The instructor is not responsible for computer, printer, traffic, parking, alarm clock, conflicting schedules and other problems. In preparation for future success as a journalist, learn now the importance of meeting deadlines.
SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT INTERVIEW APPOINTMENTS: Some class sessions will meet elsewhere on campus to conduct interviews with scientists and other sources. It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to arrange for these interviews, arrive early for these appointments, , and come prepared with a notebook , pens or pencils and good questions.
